There are many professional organizations in existence for the purpose of promoting the advancement of grape and wine production. This page contains brief descriptions and website links to the major organizations representing producers, researchers, educators, and advocates.
 

Texas Organizations

Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association

The mission of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association (TWGGA) is to promote the production and appreciation of premium grapes and fine wines from Texas and to represent a unified state industry with common marketing, governmental and educational goals. TWWGA conducts educational programs on grape growing and wine making, sponsors wine festivals, and works on political issues of concern to the Texas wine industry.

The Wine Society of Texas

The Wine Society of Texas mission includes enhancement of the appreciation of wine, especially Texas wines, education of wine tasters, fostering the knowledge of enology and viticulture, and promotion of responsible consumption of wine.

The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas

The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas was established as a non-profit organization to reward and recognize those whose leadership, talent and skills have made significant and measurable impact upon the culinary and viniculture arts.

Texas Wine Advocates

The Texas Wine Advocates is a grassroots lobbying group with a goal of influencing legislation to help grow this sector of the Texas economy while maintaining safeguards to prevent underage consumption of alcohol.

Texas Farm Bureau

The Texas Farm Bureau is the state affiliate of the American Farm Bureau.  See description below.

National Producer Organizations

Winegrape Growers of America

Formed in 1978 to represent the national winegrape growing industry, the Winegrape Growers of America (WGA) serves as the national lobbying arm of the domestic winegrape industry and provides a forum for communication and exchange of information among member states.

WineAmerica

WineAmerica, formerly the American Vintners Association, is the national association of American wineries. The Mission of WineAmerica is to encourage the dynamic growth and development of American wineries and winegrowing through the advancement and advocacy of sound public policy.

Wine Market Council

Wine Market Council is a non-profit association of grape growers, wine producers, importers, wholesalers, and other affiliated businesses and organizations. The council was established to grow, strengthen, and stabilize the wine market in the United States on behalf of all segments of the wine industry.

American Farm Bureau

The American Farm Bureau's mission is to implement policies that are developed by members and provide programs that will improve the financial well-being and quality of life for farmers and ranchers.

International Organizations

International Office of Vine and Wine

The International Office of Vine and Wine (OIV) is an inter-governmental organization of scientific and technical nature working in the field of vine and vine-based products, established in 1924. Part of the mission of OIV is to gather, study and publish all information which demonstrates the beneficial effects of wine, and to inform the governments regarding measures to be taken to insure the protection of wine interests and the improvement of conditions of the international wine market.

International Wine Law Association
The International Wine Law Association (AIDV) was founded in 1985 to provide an international forum for the study and discussion of legal issues concerning the viticultural community and the wine trade - world wide. With over 300 individual and organization members in more than 20 countries, the AIDV provides a wide range of activities: conferences in major wine-growing regions of the world, publications, and opportunities for contact with colleagues in wine law.

L’Assemblée des Régions Européennes Viticoles (AREV)
The AREV is a non-profit, apolitical, association of European wine growing regions. It promotes the common interests of the wine regions in the European and world economy.

Scientific Societies

American Society for Enology and Viticulture

The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (the sciences of winemaking and grape growing), is a non-profit, scientific society dedicated to the interests of enologists, viticulturists, and others in the fields of wine and grape research and production throughout the world. ASEV membership includes professionals from wineries, vineyards, academic institutions and organizations.

American Society for Horticultural Science

Founded in 1903, the American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS) is the largest, most visible organization dedicated to advancing all facets of horticultural research, education, and application. Nearly 4000 strong, ASHS members (researchers, faculty and other educational personnel, extension agents, Federal and state experiment station representatives, growers and distributors of horticultural products, and personnel in related industries) continue to make significant advances in these areas.

International Society for Horticultural Science

The aim of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) is to promote and to encourage research in all branches of Horticulture and to facilitate the cooperation of scientific activities and knowledge transfer on a global scale by means of its publications, events and scientific structure. Membership is open to all interested Horticultural researchers, students and organizations.

American Pomological Society

The American Pomological Society is the oldest fruit organization in North America, founded by Marshall P. Wilder in 1848 to foster the science and practice of fruit growing and variety development. The society publishes the quarterly Journal of the American Pomological Society and the Register of New Fruit and Nut Varieties.

Advocacy Groups

Texas Wine Advocates

Women for WineSense

Women for WineSense is "committed to ensuring that all women and men, worldwide, have unbiased information about the cultural heritage, social and health effects of moderate wine consumption, in order to protect the duty and the right of individuals to be responsible for their lifestyle decisions."

American Institute of Wine & Food

Founded on the premise that sharing quality food and drink is essential to the quality of human existence, The American Institute of Wine & Food is a nonprofit educational organization with membership open to all. The AIWF is dedicated to promoting the message of health and well-being through the enjoyment of good food and drink and the fellowship that comes from eating together around the table.
